BNP Paribas Swiss Foundation : 15 years of support for Swiss organisations and institutions
Created in 2002, the BNP Paribas Swiss Foundation celebrates its 15th birthday this year. Since its creation, the Foundation has made it its mission to encourage dialogue between the banking world and its local environment on topics that are as much cultural as social and environmental. It is considered as an eloquent example of company patronage, in the same vein as the actions carried out over the last 30 years by the Foundation of the Group BNP Paribas.
Vector of BNP Paribas Group values
The BNP Paribas Swiss Foundation positions itself as the vector of values of the Group BNP Paribas within Swiss cultural, social and scientific spheres, in which the bank takes an interest locally. Through these actions, the Foundation encourages ties and the creation of positive, dynamic exchanges between BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA and civil society.
3 axes for one action plan
The Foundation’s patronage activities are articulated around 3 main axes that represent both the reflection of benevolent orientations and of fundamental values promoted by the Board that supervises it. The latter has every interest in making sure that the Foundation’s actions be fully integrated in the BNP Paribas strategy in Switzerland – Geoffroy Bazin, the CEO, is Chairman of the Foundation – in line with its objectives as a responsible Bank.
Although, in the past, a certain number of projects related to the health and medical research sectors have been supported, the Foundation has recently decided to concentrate on other important societal issues, and in particular to engage towared current environmental challenges. This new orientation was marked by the partnership with the new Swiss Polar Institute, based at EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), concerning a circumnavigation expedition in Antarctica. It is therefore as committed to promoting Swiss cultural heritage and encouraging the young art scene, as to supporting projects in favour of education and social inclusion, and to getting involved in research on climate change.
A real Partner for Swiss organisations
Beyond financial backing, the Foundation engages with the local organisations that it supports in a real partnership and accompanies their projects for the duration, in such a way that it can create bridges between the Bank and the world of Swiss organisations and institutions over the long-term.
Its main accomplishments highlighted
In 15 years, there have been more than 30 cultural projects and about 20 social initiatives that have benefited from the support of the BNP Paribas Foundation Switzerland. Over the coming weeks we will highlight the big initiatives supported by the Foundation in cultural, social and environmental spheres in more detail.
In celebration of this, the entrance hall of BNP Paribas in Geneva will host an exceptional exhibition that will enable the discovery, in an interactive manner, of some of the key programmes carried out by the Foundation since it was created, from 13th to 16th June 2017. An important event in Geneva during September will mark the high point of these festivities.
