Through this partnership, BNP Paribas in Switzerland and the Solar Impulse Foundation together commit to promote concrete solutions for the improvement of quality of life, that are sustainable both at an economic and at an ecological level.
Historically associated with the energy sector, and already a committed player in the transition towards a sustainable world, BNP Paribas is an accelerator of the energy transition and actively contributes to the decarbonisation of the economy.
Directly in line with the Group’s strategy, BNP Paribas in Switzerland has made responsibility one of its four strategic cornerstones, and is committed to contribute to sustainable and socially responsible growth. Beyond the engagement of the BNP Paribas Swiss Foundation via its support of cultural, social and environmental initiatives, the bank has decided to further embody, in a more concrete fashion, its contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
As part of a new partnership with the Solar Impulse Foundation, BNP Paribas in Switzerland is involved with the programme “World Alliance for Efficient Solutions”. This initiative – the principal action of the Solar Impulse Foundation – was launched by Bertrand Piccard following the First Round-The-World Solar Flight, with the aim of helping governments and businesses to adopt more ambitious energy policies and to fulfill their environmental objectives by adopting clean and cost-effective technologies.
Through its support of the Solar Impulse Foundation, BNP Paribas in Switzerland offers its know-how in terms of risk management and provides its employees with voluntary missions that the bank widely encourages in Switzerland.
Geoffroy Bazin, CEO of BNP Paribas in Switzerland, declared: “Over the last few years, BNP Paribas has become one of the highest ranked international banks by non-financial rating agencies. Today’s social and environmental challenges require our bank to contribute even more actively to growth that is sustainable for both humankind and the planet. We’re proud to reinforce our strategy of commitment in Switzerland alongside Bertrand Piccard and the Solar Impulse Foundation.”
Bertrand Piccard, Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation added: “I’ve always wanted to have a bank in the team to support the action of the Solar Impulse Foundation and of the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions. Our partnership with BNP Paribas shows that today we’re in a rationale of environmental protection that’s economically viable. Investing in new technologies makes sense: it’s logical, even more so than ecological. It creates jobs and generates clean and sustainable growth, which is far preferable to the current dirty status quo. »

The Solar Impulse Foundation
Following on from the success of the First Round-The-World Solar Flight using zero fuel, which demonstrated that it is possible to protect the planet thanks to existing clean technologies, the Solar Impulse Foundation aims to encourage the pioneering spirit in the company to meet the challenges of the 21st century and to speed up the energy transition. It has set itself the goal of selecting #1,000 financially viable solutions to protect the environment between now and the COP24 in 2018. To do this, Bertrand Piccard has created the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions, in order to group together a credible force of all players from the sector and to offer governments and businesses solutions for commitment to a more ambitious environmental policy.
